Turkish President condoles Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s demise/President Rouhani: Close Tehran-Ankara-Moscow ties brings peace, stability to region

In the phone call that was initiated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Dr Rouhani appreciated the Turkish government and nation’s message of condolence over Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s passing away and said: “Late Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani was a politician who always put great emphasis on developing and deepening friendly ties with Islamic and neighbouring countries, especially Turkey”.

President Rouhani, in turn, expressed condolences over death of a number of Turkish citizens in recent terrorist attacks, adding: “I hope Iranian and Turkish governments’ cooperate to eradicate terrorism, for the people of the region to have more sense of peace”.

Stressing the need to develop ties between the two countries in long term, he said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is satisfied with close Tehran-Ankara-Moscow ties aimed at establishing peace in the region”.

Dr Rouhani also referred to cease-fire in Syria, adding: “We should all contribute to continuation of the cease-fire. Without a doubt, close cooperation between Ankara, Moscow and Tehran is very important in establishing peace and stability in the region”.

On the coming negotiations in Astana about Syria, he said: “I hope we witness relative stability in Syria and the region soon, through cooperation between Iran and Turkey”.

All terrorist groups in the region are our common enemies, said Rouhani adding: “We hope to witness further development of bilateral ties by cooperating closely to solve major issues of the region”.

During the phone call, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed condolences over Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s demis and added: “Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s passing away has deeply saddened us. He was a great man and a respectful politician who significantly contributed to peace and stability in the region, especially establishing a firm base between Tehran and Ankara”.

Turkey is determined to develop ties and cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields, he said, adding: “Firm ties between the two countries is very effective for settling issues of the region and the government of Turkey attaches great weight to advancing and continuing mutual and regional dialogue “.

He also stressed that terrorist groups should be eradicated by cooperation, continuing: “Iran and Turkey have a great responsibility on their shoulders and should further boost cooperation to alleviate tensions of the region”.

On cease-fire in Syria and the coming negotiations in Astana, he said: “We should all make attempts to strengthen the bases of cease-fire in Syria”.
