President in a meeting with Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan:
Security, political stability, and national unity are the main bases for development process in Afghanistan and Afghan people’s welfare
At the meeting that was held on Wednesday in Tehran with Abdullah Abdullah as the head of an Afghan delegation traveling to Tehran to extend condolences over Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s passing away, Dr Rouhani added: “Iran will spare no effort helping Afghan nation and government”.
President Rouhani also expressed hope that bolstering political stability and unity in Afghanistan can pave the way for putting joint projects into action as soon as possible.
Appreciating the Afghan government and nation’s message of condolence, Dr Rouhani also said: “Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani was one of the bedrocks of Islamic Iran and would pay a lot of attention to regional and international issues, including those regarding Afghanistan, supporting peace and stability in the country. I hope we all can continue that path by joint efforts”.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been, and will, stand by the people and government of Afghanistan,” President Rouhani continued.
Referring to solid frameworks for developing ties between the two countries, he added: “Developing Chabahar Port and railroad networks, including connecting Iran’s railways to Herat can further facilitate deepening Tehran-Kabul ties”.
He also talked about terrorism and called it a threat not only to Afghanistan, but also to the entire world and stressed combatting it.
At the meeting, Chief Executive of the Government of National Unity of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah also extended his country’s government and nation’s condolences over Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s passing away and said: “Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani is a well-known figure for the Afghan people and our people will never forget his help, especially during the hard times”.
He also reported on peace negotiations in his country and added: “Iran has always been Afghan government and nation’s friend and our government is determined to develop ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran as a friend and brother country”.
